This monograph addresses the need for nonprofit boards to diversify, articulates the value of increased diversification, and provides a roadmap for organizations can follow to achieve that goal.
Drawn from BoardSource’s downloadable publication “Recruiting a Stronger Board: A BoardSource Toolkit,” this piece identifies three concrete steps nonprofits must take to achieve greater diversity beginning with effective communication within the governing board. Once the board understands and accepts the need for greater diversity, it can develop a case and plan for change, with concrete strategies, goals, objectives, tasks, and a timeline. Once implemented, the organization must commit to the third imperative: monitoring and measuring the results.
