The mission of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area is to preserve, interpret and sustainably develop the music, craft, natural, agricultural and Cherokee heritage assets within 25 Western North Carolina mountain counties and in so doing, preserve these assets for future generations and achieve a positive impact on the regional economy.

Our main focus is #4. We achieve this through the development and leveraging of our natural and cultural assets to increase heritage tourism in the region and through preserving these assets so they can continue to benefit the region into the future.
Our programs are also in alignment with #5 through the innovative online and in-person training and programs we provide to help our partners have a stronger impact on the economy of their small towns.

Q10. Negative Impacts from COVID-19:
We have lost three staff members through Covid. One has been replaced at this time. The Visitor Center we help manage was shut down for almost six months. We have continued to work, but we have had to change how we were working to complete our programs. Our role is to be out in community working with partners. The pandemic has severely restricted access for us to complete our goals.

Managing and growing our financial and human capacity in a strategic and systematic way to meet the needs of our partners through the pandemic and beyond.
Concerns over our ability to retain federal base funding and the financial steps we need to take to secure our financial future
Concerns over impacts of Covid-19 on on our fundraising efforts, which will in-turn impact our budget and ability to deliver needed programs
How Participation in Program Will Address Concerns:
A long term strategic financial plan for our organization will help us secure long-term financial stability, but also help us think through how to grow financial resources over time to meet the needs of our partners and communities. We have conducted strategic planning but never looked at our organization specifically through the financial planning lens.
The program will also help us network with other organizations who are facing the same issues, be able to share best practices and offer peer learning opportunities to find solutions to issues we are facing during Covid-19 and beyond.
